The Fox Terrier Club of Northern California (FTCNC) has been bringing enthusiasts of Fox Terriers together since its inception in 1937. The first Specialty Show took place seven years later, in 1944. The FTCNC has had great success hosting Specialty Shows for more than 70 years!

Since the Club’s founding, our mission has been to:

  • encourage and promote purebred Fox Terriers for show and as family pets
  • urge members and breeders to accept the standards of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC)
  • protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows as well as through obedience and field trials
  • conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows
  • support Fox Terrier Rescue and
  • have fun doing all of the above!

Featured Event:  Behind the Scenes of a Dog Show

Ever thought about taking your Fox Terrier into the show ring? If for no other reason than to see what the experience is like? The FTCNC is here to help you run with the big dogs. “Conformation” is the official name for “dog shows”. While they may seem fun and exciting, the true purpose of conformation showing is to evaluate breeding stock. The dog’s conformation—its overall appearance and structure—is what is being judged in the ring. Our conformation/handling clinic will teach owners how to present their Fox Terriers to a judge at a dog show. Attendees will be introduced to stacking, gaiting, ring patterns, and proper presentation skills. Read more

Sirius: The Little Dog Who Almost Changed History

It’s said to be the first-ever novel by a dog. As such, the FTCNC thinks you should know about it. It’s Berlin, 1938: Sirius, a dashing fox terrier, lives a charmed life with the German Jewish family, the Liliencrons. But, with the rise of Nazism, the Liliencrons decide to leave Berlin for Hollywood. Sirius takes his destiny into his own hands with the kind of melancholic mirth exclusive to his breed. He becomes a celebrated film star and circus performer. But, when a magic trick goes wrong, Sirius ends up back in war-torn Berlin in the Führer’s headquarters as Adolf Hitler’s lap dog… and an informant for the resistance. Read more
